  • The National Green Tribunal today directed the Centre and the governments of five northern states to come up with definitive workable solutions to stop stubble burning, including using crop residue in power plants. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar asked the Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh governments to convene a meeting on November 28 to work out a clear mechanism on transportation and use of stubble as fuel in power plants.



  • Government is contemplating convening the Winter Session of Parliament from 15th of next month, a day after the second phase of Gujarat Assembly poll is over. Official sources said the session is likely to to be held from 15th December to 5th of January.

  • The commandant of the 2nd battalion of the Tripura State Rifles( TSR), Tapan Debbarma was today arrested in connection with the killing of a journalist inside the battalion headquarters near Agartala, remanded in police custody for ten days by a local court. Superintendent of Police (Police Control), Harkumar Debbarna said the commandant of the counter-insurgency paramilitary force was arrested for conspiring to kill the scribe, Sudip Datta Bhaumick inside the battalion headquarters at Radhakishore Nagar yesterday.

  • A trilateral meeting between leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran was held in Russian city of Sochi, to discuss ways to advance a political settlement in Syria. In the joint statement after the talks, Russian President Valadmir Putin, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for the launch of political talks.




  • Zimbabwe Parliament speaker today said, former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be sworn in as President on Friday following the resignation of Robert Mugabe after nearly four decades in power. Earlier, Mnangagwa returned home after fleeing to South Africa.

  • Hours after a Pakistani court ordered the release of Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed from detention, the Trump administration today said, he is a terrorist leader designated by both the United Nations and the United States. The banned Jamaat-ud-Dawah head, who carries a bounty of 10 million dollars announced by the US for his role in terror activities, has been under detention since January this year.




  • The Railways Ministry today said, the news circulating in certain sections of media about movement of a special train carrying farmers between Delhi to Kolhapur is factually incorrect. In a statement, the Ministry said, the organisers of a Kisan rally in Delhi had booked a special train on payment basis to ferry the farmers from Kolhapur to Delhi and back.
