    Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh has felicitated the eight players of the state who were part of India's Under-17 FIFA World Cup team. During the interaction with the players and their parents, Governor expressed happiness and said that she feels proud that in the U-17 team the team captain and seven other players were from the State.

  • Punjab government has decided to levy an entertainment tax by urban and rural local bodies on DTH and local cable connections in the state. An official spokesperson said, the government proposes to bring a new legislation in this regard in the next session of the state assembly.

  • In Jharkhand, eight Maoists were arrested and some explosives seized during raids in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Monday. Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Sinha said acting on a tip-off, police arrested six Maoists from Champat village.

  • In Jammu and Kashmir, a former Sarpanch belonging to the ruling PDP was killed in a terror attack in Shopian district on Monday, while the deceased's family members killed one of the terrorists in a scuffle during the attack. Police official said, three terrorists fired upon and killed ex-Sarpanch of PDP Mohammad Ramzan in Shopian.

  • Congress has named Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh as head of the party's campaign committee for the November 9 Assembly polls, replacing state Congress chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said that the party vice president Rahul Gandhi approved the name of Virbhadra Singh as the chairman of the campaign committee for the assembly elections in the state.

  • In Afghanistan, at least 74 people were killed and over 170 injured in a series of suicide attacks by Taliban targeting police compounds and government facilities yesterday.Suicide bombers and gunmen stormed a police training centre and killed 41 people, including 20 police personnel, in the eastern city of Gardez, the capital of Paktia province.

  • Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said, the Centre is committed to extending all possible help to the people of Punjab's border areas and resolve their issues on priority. Mr Singh said this after Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh sought full support from the central government for the state's development programmes for the border areas, including a proposed special package for the region.
