  • The AYUSH Festival of Stamps 2017 was inaugurated at Maquinez Palace, Panaji today. The two-day exhibition event, which is being jointly organised by the Goa Postal Region, Indian postal department and the ministry of AYUSH, was inaugurated by Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar.




  • In Uttar Pradesh, 2,632 madarsa will likely not be able to get government's grants and help in coming months as they failed to upload their details by the last date to the website initiated by the government for the purpose. Earlier in the last month, Yogi Adityanath government had stopped all government help to 46 madarsa as their buildings and other things were not found as per norms.

  • Bharatiya Janata Party, President, Amit Shah will join the BJP’s “Janaraksha Yatra” on its last day in Thiruvananthapuram today. Flagged-off by Mr Shah on October 3 from Kannur district, the ‘padyatra’ was organized by state BJP unit to highlight the alleged CPI(M) violence, political killings and what they call as “ jihadi terror’ in the State in Kerala under the LDF government.



  • In Maharashtra, over one lakh employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) have gone on an indefinite strike demanding a hike in salary, causing hardships to thousands of long-distance passengers planning to travel to their hometowns for Diwali. AIR correspondent reports, the MSRTC staff have stopped plying ST buses from midnight yesterday demanding implementation of the 7th Pay Commission and an interim hike of 25 per cent till the pay panel's recommendations are implemented.



  • The Special Investigation Team of police has arrested a Head Constable Lal Chand of Intelligence wing of Chandigarh police for his alleged involvement in Sirsa Dera chief's escape bid on August 25. Confirming the arrest Panchkula police commissioner A S Chawla said that in a video footage he was found outside CBI court on August 25 but he was not on official duty.




  • Election Commission (EC) has directed Jammu and Kashmir government not to transfer officials engaged in special summary revision of electoral rolls without its prior permission. In a circular to the state government, EC said the substitute officers can be posted in consultation with the State Chief Electoral Officer and he or she should consult the commission whenever he felt necessary.

    Babar Azam scored a second succesive hundred while Shadab Khan gave his career best bowling and batting to help Pakistan thump Sri Lanka by 32 runs in the second day-night international in Abu Dhabi. One-drop batsman Babar knocked a fighting 133-ball 103 while Shadab scored a career best 52 not out to lift Pakistan from a struggling 79 for 5.



  • National President of Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav has not given place to Shivpal Singh Yadav in his newly constituted National Executive of the party. It was announced on Monday.

    Sri Lankan cricket has decided to play a T 20 match in Lahore this month despite security apprehensions expressed by majority of players. The board meeting in Colombo Monday evening decided to go ahead with the match after players had written to the board to consider changing the venue of match.

    Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh has felicitated the eight players of the state who were part of India's Under-17 FIFA World Cup team. During the interaction with the players and their parents, Governor expressed happiness and said that she feels proud that in the U-17 team the team captain and seven other players were from the State.



  • Punjab government has decided to levy an entertainment tax by urban and rural local bodies on DTH and local cable connections in the state. An official spokesperson said, the government proposes to bring a new legislation in this regard in the next session of the state assembly.

  • In Jharkhand, eight Maoists were arrested and some explosives seized during raids in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Monday. Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Sinha said acting on a tip-off, police arrested six Maoists from Champat village.




  • In Jammu and Kashmir, a former Sarpanch belonging to the ruling PDP was killed in a terror attack in Shopian district on Monday, while the deceased's family members killed one of the terrorists in a scuffle during the attack. Police official said, three terrorists fired upon and killed ex-Sarpanch of PDP Mohammad Ramzan in Shopian.




  • Congress has named Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh as head of the party's campaign committee for the November 9 Assembly polls, replacing state Congress chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said that the party vice president Rahul Gandhi approved the name of Virbhadra Singh as the chairman of the campaign committee for the assembly elections in the state.



  • The Konkan Railway has said that all passengers who fell ill on the Mumbai-bound Tejas Express have been discharged from hospital.The railway made arrangements for the transportation of all the passengers to Mumbai.

    Germany and the United States reached the quarterfinals of the FIFA-17 World Cup by posting spectacular victories in the Round of Sixteen encounters. In the first match, played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Monday, Germany outclassed Colombia 4-0 by producing a combination of sublime skills and brute power.
