  • A 22-year-old singer from Haryana, Harshita Dahiya was shot dead in Panipat district yesterday.Police said, the singer was shot by two unidentified youths when she was on her way back home in a car after her performance at a function in Chamrara village.

  • The Rajasthan government has implemented the recommendations of the 7th pay commission, a decision that will benefit over 12 lakh employees and pensioners of the state. In a statement, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said, government employees will get the revised salary from the month of October.

  • The Kerala High Court today directed the state government to spell out its stand on a CBI probe into the alleged political killings of RSS, BJP activists that took place in the state after CPI(M)-led LDF came to power last year. Hearing a petition, a bench of High Court Chief Justice Navaniti Prasad Singh and Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan directed the state government to file a counter affidavit by October 25.

  • The Calcutta High Court today stayed the withdrawal of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces, CAPF, from Darjeeling hills till 27th of this month. Hearing a plea by the state against the Centre's decision to withdraw CAPF from Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, a division bench of Justices Harish Tandon and Debangshu Basak ordered an interim stay.

    A division bench of the Kerala High Court today restored the life ban imposed on cricketer S Sreesanth by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the wake of the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Navaniti Prasad Singh and Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan, gave the verdict on a petition filed by the BCCI against a single-judge bench's order, lifting the life ban imposed on the 34-year-old pacer.

  • In Uttar Pradesh, 2,632 madarsa will likely not be able to get government's grants and help in coming months as they failed to upload their details by the last date to the website initiated by the government for the purpose. Earlier in the last month, Yogi Adityanath government had stopped all government help to 46 madarsa as their buildings and other things were not found as per norms.

  • Election Commission (EC) has directed Jammu and Kashmir government not to transfer officials engaged in special summary revision of electoral rolls without its prior permission. In a circular to the state government, EC said the substitute officers can be posted in consultation with the State Chief Electoral Officer and he or she should consult the commission whenever he felt necessary.

  • In Maharashtra, over one lakh employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) have gone on an indefinite strike demanding a hike in salary, causing hardships to thousands of long-distance passengers planning to travel to their hometowns for Diwali. AIR correspondent reports, the MSRTC staff have stopped plying ST buses from midnight yesterday demanding implementation of the 7th Pay Commission and an interim hike of 25 per cent till the pay panel's recommendations are implemented.

  • The Special Investigation Team of police has arrested a Head Constable Lal Chand of Intelligence wing of Chandigarh police for his alleged involvement in Sirsa Dera chief's escape bid on August 25. Confirming the arrest Panchkula police commissioner A S Chawla said that in a video footage he was found outside CBI court on August 25 but he was not on official duty.

  • BJP President Amit Shah today hit out at Kerala's CPI(M)-led LDF government over the political violence in the state, asking Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan if he was prepared to take moral responsibility for the killing of 13 BJP and RSS workers. Addressing party workers at the Puthrikandam maidan in Thiruvananthapuram on the conclusion of the party's 15-day 'Jan Raksha' Yatra in the state, Mr Shah said, BJP cannot be suppressed by any kind of violence and ideologies must be met through ideologies and not through violence.

    Babar Azam scored a second succesive hundred while Shadab Khan gave his career best bowling and batting to help Pakistan thump Sri Lanka by 32 runs in the second day-night international in Abu Dhabi. One-drop batsman Babar knocked a fighting 133-ball 103 while Shadab scored a career best 52 not out to lift Pakistan from a struggling 79 for 5.

  • National President of Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav has not given place to Shivpal Singh Yadav in his newly constituted National Executive of the party. It was announced on Monday.

    Sri Lankan cricket has decided to play a T 20 match in Lahore this month despite security apprehensions expressed by majority of players. The board meeting in Colombo Monday evening decided to go ahead with the match after players had written to the board to consider changing the venue of match.
