  • Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has handed over the probe into the killing of an RSS worker in Ludhiana to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). In a tweet, the Punjab Chief Minister said, on the request of RSS, he has ordered the transfer of the case to NIA for better coordination between central agencies and Punjab police.



  • The ongoing strike by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) employees, who are demanding a pay hike, entered the third day today even as talks held among stakeholders failed to break the deadlock. Talks held between Transport Minister Diwakar Raote, MSRTC officials and union representatives failed to arrive at a negotiated settlement to end the strike.

  • Bihar Cabinet has approved a hike in the dearness allowance payable to state government employees, pensioners and family pensioners. Principal Secretary of cabinet secretariat department Brajesh Mehrotra told reporters that the DA payable to those getting salary or pension as per revised pay scale has been raised from four per cent to five per cent, with effect from July 1 this year.




  • Eleven people have been booked in Chandigarh for allegedly bursting crackers in violation of a court directive that crackers could be burnt only on Diwali evening. Police said, it has registered cases against 11 unidentified persons in different parts of the city for bursting crackers last night.




  • Bhartiya Janata Party and Congress have released the list of candidates for Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections scheduled on 9th of next month. BJP has announced candidates for all of 68 constituencies, while Congress has released names of candidates for 59 assembly seats.



  • At least nine persons, including two minors were killed and sixteen others seriously injured in three separate massive explosions at firecracker units in Odisha yesterday. In Bahabalpur village of Balasore district, seven persons were charred to death in a massive blast at a firecracker manufacturing unit inside a house.




  • Maharashtra government has released the sum of 4,000 crore rupees under the first phase of the over 34,000 crore rupees farm loan waiver scheme. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that in the first phase the disbursal will cover more than 8 lakh farmers.




  • Delhiites gear up today to celebrate Cracker less and pollution free Diwali. The Supreme Court had temporarily banned the sale of firecrackers in the national capital region till 31 October to control air pollution during Diwali in the city.




  • Delhi Metro services will be available till 10 PM today on the occasion of Diwali. The last Metro train service will start at 10 in the night from terminal stations of all Metro Lines including Airport Express Line.

  • Taking cognizance of the petition submitted by the Nitish Kumar faction of the JD-U for disqualification of party leaders Sharad Yadav and Ali Anwar Ansari on grounds of defection, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat has issued show cause notice to the two leaders. The notice, issued on Wednesday, has asked the rebel Janata Dal United (JD-U) leaders to appear before the Rajya Sabha Chairman on October 30 in his chamber at Parliament to present their case.



  • The Kerala High Court today held that all inter-religious weddings cannot be viewed as 'love jihad' as it upheld a marriage between member of the two different community. A division bench comprising justices V Chitambaresh and Sathish Ninan made the observations in its judgement on a habeas corpus petition filed by the man.
