  • 18 Degrees Festival is organised under the aegis of State Arts and Culture department from October 16 to 21. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Arts and Culture, Ronnie V Lyngdoh said that the event is the brainchild of Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul M Sangma. He added that the festival enables youths to exhibit their talents before the world. The festival was started in 2014 and is already a hit amongst the youths of the State as the festival is a blend of entertainment showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya. The event would have a number of programmes such as X sports freestyle show, State Level Cultural competitions, DJ workshop, beat-box and photography workshops besides paintball, target shooting and art camps.
  • Inflation, based on the wholesale price index (WPI), had soared to a four-month high of 3.24 per cent in August 2017. It was 1.36 per cent in September 2016. The government data released today showed that inflation in food articles tapered to 2.04 per cent in September, as against 5.75 per cent in August on an yearly basis. Inflation in vegetable prices cooled to 15.48 per cent in September, as against a high of 44.91 per cent in the previous month. Onion prices, however, continued to rule high with 79.78 per cent increase in September. In egg, meat and fish segment the rate of price rise was 5.47 per cent. Inflation in manufactured products witnessed a slight increase at 2.72 per cent, against 2.45 per cent in August. In fuel and power segment, inflation cooled to 9.01 per cent, against 9.99 per cent in August.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses 7 lakh BJP workers in Ahmedabad on Monday marking the culmination of BJP's Gaurav Yatra in Gujarat which highlighted visible and quantifiable development achieved in 22 years of BJP rule in state. The state incumbent launched the Yatra under the leadership of Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel in the first week of October. The Yatra travelled through 149 assembly constituencies in the state. Ahead of his Gujarat visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that Gujarat Gaurav Mahasammelan comes after the successful culmination of the 2 Gujarat Gaurav Yatras. He said that Gujarat Gaurav Yatras covered almost 4500 kms & 149 Assembly seats. People of all age groups & from all sections of society joined the Yatra. He said that Gujarat Gaurav Yatras showcased the spirit of Jan Shakti and reflected Gujarat's strong faith in politics of development & good governance. He expressed his gratitude to the people of Gujarat for blessing BJP for decades and said that the party will always fulfill the dreams of every Gujarati with full strength and vigour.
