  • The volume of ultra fine particulates PM 2.5 and PM 10, which enter the respiratory system and manage to reach the bloodstream, sharply rose. The real time pollution data appeared alarming. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research, SAFAR, the 24-hour rolling average of PM 2.5 and PM 10 was 154 and 256 micrograms per cubic metre at around 11 in the night. At 7.30 in the morning today, PM 2.5 was 306 and PM10 was 225. The agency alerted that people with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. Last week, the Supreme Court had banned the sale of firecrackers during this Diwali to see effects of its suspension in the light of the severe pollution and smog-like conditions.

  • Almost 'six months before the deadline', as many as 255 households of NALCO Nagar in Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneshwar were supplied Piped Natural Gas (PNG) today. As part of the City Gas Distribution project, around 25 thousand households in twin-cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack would get PNG connection by end of next year.
